Toronto’s iconic Taste of the Danforth is set to return this summer

We’re Greeking out! After two years of cancellations, Toronto’s beloved Taste of the Danforth festival is set to come back this August for a street-wide celebration of Mediterranean food and fun.

A media representative of Taste of the Danforth confirmed to Curiocity via email that the event’s organizers are hoping to run the festival on the weekend of August 5th, 2022.

Known as Toronto’s largest street festival of the year, Taste of the Danforth draws about 1.6 million attendees over the span of three nights and two days, according to its website.

“The Taste of the Danforth is one of Toronto’s signature events, showcasing the best of what our multicultural city has to offer: music, the arts, sports and — of course — food,” it says.

In normal years, the late-summer event takes over Greek Town with all kinds of multicultural vendors and programming to enjoy.

Only 5,000 people attended the very first Taste of the Danforth in 1994 and evidently, its popularity has exploded since then.

Also planning to make an in-person comeback this summer are TD Salsa on St. Clair, Pride Toronto, the CNE, Toronto’s Caribbean Carnival, and TD Jazz Festival, to name a few.

On the same weekend as Taste of the Danforth, a mouthwatering new Jamaican patty festival will celebrate the culture and flavours of Little Jamaica. You better be hungry on the weekend of August 5th!

We’ll be on the lookout for more news about this year’s Danforth food festival! In the meantime, you officially have permission to start fantasizing about spanakopita and souvlaki.
