Did you know? You can see nearly 80 murals in this tiny Washington town

We don’t know about you guys but we’re always down for a little road trip. Whether the week has gotten to you and you need to aimlessly drive or just want to adventure, the open road is always a good idea. But if you’re going to take a drive, you might as well make it scenic and head to Toppenish to see Washington history through over 75 murals.

This tiny town’s murals began in 1989 after money was distributed to small communities during Washington’s centennial celebration. It began with a “Mural In A Day” in which a dozen or more artists completed an entire wall-sized mural in a day. This led to the creation of the Mural Society and 79 additional murals since.

These murals aren’t the typical trendy murals you see on craft breweries. Rather, they depict historical figures & events as well as the realities of everyday life in rural Washington. Plus on the first Saturday of June each year, they add a new mural. So it might just be worth a drive on June 5th.

If you’d like to learn more about Toppenish and the murals you can visit Yakima’s website.
