Symphony in the Park: A free outdoor concert is coming to Vancouver this summer

Picture this. You’re laying on a picnic blanket in the middle of summer. The sun is shining, the air is breezy and full of fragrant flowers – and the sounds of violin strings in a beautiful symphony. Yes, we’re talking about Symphony in the Park!

On Saturday, July 16th, the 33rd-anniversary performance will take over Deer Lake Park in Burnaby. Best of all? The concert is completely free to attend.

This year’s symphony will transport park patrons to other worlds, from the gritty streets of New York in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, to the supernatural (dare we say Stranger Things-esque) world of E.T. by John Williams.

Of course, no symphony is complete without a little Tchaikovsky. Naturally, the romantic overture and arias in Romeo & Juliet will make an appearance.

Come early to participate in free family-friendly activities, and settle in with your picnic blanket and chair for a wonderful evening with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

The official website recommends leaving larger tents, barbeques, and pets (working dogs permitted) at home while opting for lawn chairs and refillable water bottles. Outside food is permitted, and bringing layers to prepare for the weather is strongly encouraged.

The concert will take place at 7 pm on Saturday, July 16th. Stay up to date via the Vancouver Symphony’s website and socials.

We’ll see you at Deer Lake, Vancouver!
