10 of the best summer festivals in Edmonton you have to experience

Summer festivals are the best part about being in Edmonton, and there’s a reason we have been named “festival city” all these years.

There is an endless number of festivals that reign over the summer season in Edmonton. Whether you’re looking for music, art, comedy, or something entirely different, you won’t have trouble finding an event that’s right up your alley. Every week and weekend, there will be something new to uncover, and we’re here to help you find your next go-to event.

Whyte Avenue Art Walk

If you aren’t familiar with this summer tradition, this art walk takes over the heart of Edmonton, Old Strathcona, every year. It’s actually Alberta’s largest and oldest non-juried arts festival. According to its website, it’s also the first art walk in Edmonton.

Rockin’ Thunder

This is the second year of Rockin’ Thunder in Edmonton, bringing even bigger rock names to the stage. With Creed and Three Days Grace, you can expect to be headbanging all night.

Neon Skies Festival

Neon Skies Festival is Edmonton’s newest pop music festival, being held right in the middle of the city — in ICE District’s Fan Park. This will be the festival’s first year, its inaugural two-night party, held this summer in July. You can anticipate big names like legendary pop star Kesha and the talented Conan Gray as your headliners.

Great Outdoors Comedy Festival

Making its way around to Edmonton once again is the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival. With huge names coming up this season, you’re going to be laughing your head off all night long.

KDays

KDays is Edmonton’s annual summer festival, taking over the city with games, concerts, and fun all around. If you’re ready to spend a day, or maybe even a couple, at the fairgrounds, we’ll see you there. This is an Edmonton classic for a reason.

Edmonton Heritage Festival

Edmonton Heritage Festival is one of the city’s best celebrations, and it’s back in its prime location for this year. There’s no better place to be if you’re ready to immerse yourself in the rich diversity of Edmonton this summer.

Edmonton Folk Fest

Since 1980, the Edmonton Folk Fest has become a staple in the community, supporting folk music both locally and globally. The festival is a four-day, fun-filled, affordable experience that highlights incredible artists from around the world as well as local food and sales vendors.

Cariwest

Cariwest takes three days out of the year to show Edmonton the rich history, traditions, and contributions of the Caribbean diaspora through a powerful festival.

Each year, Cariwest gets bigger and better. With a parade and a village for folks to explore, this festival introduces people to Caribbean culture and delves deep into what makes it so special.

Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival

The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival is ranked as one of the top five Fringe Theatre Festivals in the world, standing next to Edinburgh, Scotland, and Adelaide, Australia. According to its website, it’s also the largest and longest-running festival of its kind in North America.

Since 1982, it’s only grown more and more, and continues to flourish as one of Edmonton’s most iconic festivals.

Edmonton Pride Festival

Although Pride is in June, Edmonton’s huge festival rolls around in August. Here, you can join in on one of the dance parties, watch the parade, or have a chat with one of the many drag artists at the fest. It’s definitely going to be a blast.
