A space-cowboy-themed night is taking over Telus Spark with live country music and a dance floor

A space-cowboy-themed night is taking over Telus Spark in Calgary as part of its Spark After Dark series, transforming the science centre into an adults-only playground inspired by the Wild West and outer space. For one night only, the entire building becomes a hub of live country music, interactive science exhibits, and after-hours access, letting you explore space in a completely different way.

Let’s take a look at what’s happening at the event.

Where the Wild West meets outer space

Once you’re inside, the space is split into different themed areas, and you’re free to move between them at your own pace.

At the Moon Saloon, there’s a full live country music stage featuring local Alberta artists like Ashley Ghostkeeper, Robert Adam, and more.

After you’re finished jamming to the music, head over to the Infinity Dome. According to Telus Spark, it’s an immersive dome theatre with massive full-screen visuals that take you through space, galaxies, and cosmic storytelling all around you.

A bit further along, you’ll find group line dancing sessions run by Ranchmans Dancehall, where you can jump in and learn the step as you go, even if you’ve never done it before. Nearby, there’s a Stockmen’s branding experience where you can design a symbol and press it into wood as a keepsake.

At the Atrium, you’ll find plenty of midway-style games like horseshoe and other frontier-inspired challenges where you can compete against your friends and rack up some bragging rights.

And to add to the excitement, there will be an ATB prize pot running throughout the night. According to Telus Spark, throughout the evening, three live draws will take place, giving guests the chance to win $1,000 for themselves plus $1,000 donated to a Telus Spark program of their choice. You don’t need to do anything to enter – just attend the event, and you’ll automatically be included in the draws!

What to know before you go

Before you head in, it’s worth knowing a few basics so you can show up and enjoy the night without overthinking the logistics.

First things first: this is an 18-plus event, so unfortunately, you can’t bring the kids with you, and you will need a valid photo ID to get in. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event will run until midnight, so you’ve got plenty of time to wander and bounce between activities.

Tickets are $36.95 for general admission, or $15 if you’re a Spark member, which makes it a pretty great option for a Stampede weeknight out that doesn’t involve lining up on a street somewhere.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to get a deeper look at space without it feeling like a school field trip, this is a great way to do it. Throw on your fringe, grab your boots, and make a night out of it!
