This Ontario lake has a ‘striking’ aquamarine tint & it’s warm for swimming

Ready for your next Ontario trip? A lake adventure is waiting on Manitoulin Island so if you’re on the hunt for the perfect and relaxing outdoor experience, look no further than Lake Mindemoya.

What’s described as a ‘striking beryl-blue’ lake is adored by locals and visitors alike for its lustrous turquoise colour, its abundance of fish, and the large nearby island from which the lake gets its name.

According to Explore Manitoulin, this lovely lake is located on Manitoulin Island. Lake Mindemoya’s striking appearance is just one of its many standout features.

During a typical summer day, the serene and shallow lake attracts swimmers and sunbathers lying out on the shore.

As the third largest among the island’s collection of over 100 lakes, Lake Mindemoya boasts other noteworthy characteristics.

It is known for its swimmer-friendly temperatures, abundance of whitefish, and rugged and hilly island that serves as its iconic backdrop, shares Explore Manitoulin.

That “hilly island” is now called Treasure Island, and it is an 87-acre hump of hardwood-clad limestone, 300 feet above lake level.

It was “originally known as Mindemoya, or more properly, ‘Mindimowenh,” in the Ojibwetongue, which means ‘old woman,'” shares Explore Manitoulin.

Locals also claim that the mesmerizing hue of the lake is due to its “blue clay bottom,” which some people even use for pottery.

And there you have it! It’s time to gather your friends and plan a getaway – Lake Mindemoya is a great place to start.
