These granite cliffs in BC have three scenic summits to hike with breathtaking views

It’s no secret that the Stawamus Chief (AKA ‘The Chief’) in Squamish is a challenging ascent, but oh, how those panoramic views are worth it. The provincial park protects the famed 700-metre granite cliffs, which also happen to be one of the largest granite monoliths in the world!

The Chief is open year-round, but late spring is a fantastic time to take on one of three summits, or tackle them all! Starting with a stretch of stairs, the hike comes to three scenic summits, offering views of Howe Sound, Squamish downtown, and beyond.

Want to make a weekend of it? The park has over 50 walk-in campsites available, so if you’re willing to carry your gear uphill, you’ll definitely be rewarded with some spectacular views.

According to BC Parks, Stawamus Chief provides a good nesting habitat for peregrine falcons, so keep your eyes out for any flying overhead!

Note that multiple rockfalls in the North Wall, Slhanay, Grand Wall, and Western Dihedrals mean that these climbing areas are currently closed until further notice.

So there you have it, bouldering enthusiasts! Time to conquer a new challenge this spring or summer!
