Crypto, NFTs, the Metaverse, at first it may have seemed a bit like a joke. But as we all know, these technologies are very much real and gaining even more popularity and legitimacy. Which is why it’s no surprise that Seattle’s very own Starbucks is hopping on using Web3 technology to offer you Starbucks Odyssey.

No it’s not an episode of Black Mirror, the coffee giant is planning to “offer members the ability to earn and buy digital collectible stamps (NFTs) that will unlock access to new, immersive coffee experiences.” Their goal is to create “an accessible Web3 community that will enable new ways to engage with members and partners (employees).” What’s more, you can now officially join the waitlist for a chance to be among the first to receive access to the Starbucks Odyssey experience, which is set to launch later this year.

Here’s the gist of how it works, Odyssey Members will be able to use their Starbucks Rewards credentials to log in. Once in, members can partake in Starbucks Odyssey ‘journeys,’ “a series of activities, such as playing interactive games or taking on fun challenges to deepen their knowledge of coffee and Starbucks.” These members will then be rewarded for completing journeys with a digital collectable ‘journey stamp’ aka an NFT.

Members will also be able to purchase ‘limited-edition stamps’ through a built-in marketplace within the Starbucks Odyssey web app experience. These are available to purchase directly with a credit card, so no crypto wallet or cryptocurrency is needed.

As for value, each digital collectable stamp will include a point value based on its rarity. They can then be bought or sold among members within the marketplace, with ownership secured on a blockchain. The more stamps you have, the more your points will increase, unlocking access to unique benefits and experiences that have never been offered before.

Examples of experiences include a virtual espresso martini-making class, unique merchandise and artist collaborations, invitations to exclusive events at Starbucks Reserve Roasteries or even trips to Starbucks Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm in Costa Rica. Psst a portion of the proceeds from the sale of limited-edition stamps will be donated to support causes that matter to Starbucks partners and Starbucks Rewards members.

So if you’re really into Starbucks and all things crypto and NFT, Starbucks Odyssey might just be up your alley. Have fun!
