Thanks to millennial classics like The Princess Diaries and Ms. Congeniality, most of us grew up under the weight of an imaginary crown. Sadly though, despite what we were sold, we still have yet to find out that our great Grandmother was actually the queen of a country we’ve never heard of. Luckily, if you’re willing to work for it, a sash and tiara could be in your very near future because applications are now open for Calgary Stampede royalty.
Between now and March 18h, the greatest outdoor show on earth will be holding their annual contest where 3 lucky Calgarians will win a title, golden opportunity, and exposure to the city’s most elite.
After submissions close, successful applicants will have just shy of 4 weeks to impress a panel of judges who will be scoring everything from your ability to speak publically, ride a horse, and interact during meet-and-greets and public appearances.

Of course, claiming your spot on a local throne won’t be an easy task!
To apply you’ll need to prove that you’ve received your high school diploma (or equivalent), are social media savvy, can mount, dismount and ride a horse, live within 100 km of Stampede Park, are a Canadian citizen and have your Class 5 driver’s licence.
In addition to this, you’ll also have to write a 400-word essay, pass a safety and competence course on riding, and be committed to a 6-month reign as a stampede promoter.
Turns out – it takes a lot more than a pretty face and a wave to kill to be queen!
