According to St. Thomas Elevated Park, it is Canada’s first and only elevated park and “was built totally with community donations and volunteer efforts.”
The park features some amazing art installations and pieces.
One of the first ones you may notice is an elephant mural in tribute to the legendary story of Jumbo, the world-famous elephant who was tragically struck and killed by a locomotive following a circus performance in St. Thomas back in 1885!
This next art installation is so big you’ll have to look up at it.
‘Fear Not the Wind’ is a piece by artist/blacksmith Scott McKay and was first installed in 2017, know to help lead the way for visitors.
One of the newer installations is ‘Love is in the Air,” a steel sculpture by artist and fabricator Bobby Keeler.
The popular lovelocks concept “invites couples to bring a lock, engrave their initials or names, and attach the lock on the frame.”
Another popular art piece is ‘Untitled (Ribbon of Steel)’ by artist Sam Radoff.
This installation is painted bright green with the shape of the piece hinting “something continuous, perhaps a vision of the infinite complexity of the natural environment.”
The latest addition to St. Thomas Elevated Park is ‘The Arboretum Line’ on the western trail of the park.
The park is open daily from 5:00 AM – 11:00 PM so get out and enjoy, Ontario!
