You can help name these adorable Calgary foals through an iconic annual contest

Spruce Meadows’ newest residents have arrived, but they’re missing one important detail: their names. The annual Name the Foal contest is back, giving people across Canada the chance to help choose names for three adorable foals. Along with the chance to help name the new arrivals, participants can also enter for a chance to win a prize package to the Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament.
If you think you have what it takes to come up with the winning name, here’s how you can get involved.
About this year’s Name the Foal contest

According to Spruce Meadows, this year’s contest features three young female foals, each with their own personality and story. The foals are part of Spruce Meadows’ breeding program, where they’ll continue to grow and develop as they begin their journey in the equestrian world.
There’s one important rule to know before submitting your idea. Each foal’s name must start with the same letter as their dad’s name. So while you can still think outside the box, your suggestion still has to fall within the guidelines Spruce Meadows has put in place.
Now it might help to know a bit about the foals so you can get some name ideas. The first foal arrived earlier this year on April 20, and is looking for a name that begins with the letter “I.” The second foal arrived shortly after on April 29, and needs a name starting with “S.” The third arrival made her debut on May 19, and her future name needs to begin with “G.”
And while naming the foal is already a pretty cool opportunity, there are also a few prizes up for grabs. Three lucky winners will receive prize packages to the Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament, including two tickets, access to the International Club, and a $500 gift card to enjoy during the event.
How to enter the Name the Foal contest
To enter, participants will need to submit a name for all three foals through the official Name the Foal website. Each foal has its own entry section, where you can share your idea and make sure it follows the guidelines for that specific foal.
Entries will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, so you have plenty of time to brainstorm before submitting your name ideas. Once the contest closes, Spruce Meadows will review the submissions and choose the winning names.
So, what will you name them?
