While it might be hard to believe with a ton of fresh snow on the ground, the sunny season is coming in hot and this year, with a little luck and a lot of vigilance, some of our favourite festivals and activities will make a comeback. After two years of uncertainty, things are looking up, folks, so to celebrate here are 10 exciting spring events in Calgary to look forward to this year.
MICHELANGELO’S SISTINE CHAPEL: THE EXHIBITION
From Melbourne and Frankfurt to Vancouver and Montreal, the travelling Michelangelo exhibit has delighted audiences all over the work by bringing audiences closer to the extravagant art pieces that exist on the walls and ceilings of the Sistine Chapel. Now, it’s Calgary’s turn as the unreal gallery of colour, perspective and light take over the BMO centre this spring.

PEDAL PUB TOURS
Stretch your legs! Starting March 17th, thirsty Calgarians will be able to enjoy sun, fun, and alcohol all at the same time, as they cruise their way through YYC’s downtown on a pedal-powered patio. On every two-hour trip, guests will hit local breweries, resto hotspots and might even learn a thing or two about whatever is in their glass! Will you remember any of it? Well, we can’t promise that, but we can almost guarantee you’ll have a good time.

JURASSIC QUEST

This April, between the 8th and 10th, touch, stomp, and ride on the backs of life-sized dinosaurs. Featuring several of these unreal animatronic creatures, a 50-foot megalodon, a fossil dig, and a bounce house for your littles, this indoor exhibit has travelled the world and will soon occupy YYC’s BMO Centre.

ALBERTA INTERNATIONAL BEER FESTIVAL
Thirsty? This May, like every year before it, Alberta International Beer Fest will once again, take Calgary on an indoor booze cruise and we could not be more excited. Consider our Ubers ordered and our hangover kits ready.

LILAC FESTIVAL

Food, live music, drinks, local vendors, and sun! This spring Calgary’s beloved Lilac Festival – and its vendors, musicians, artists and food trucks are back and ready to rock your world. It’s been a long time coming, folks – but they’ve finally returned!

CALGARY COMIC EXPO
featuring local and nationally loved vendors, costume contests, workshops and celebrity reunions, the Calgary Comic Expo is back, and this year will be bigger than ever, featuring some of your favourite, voice actors, cosplay artists and celebrities like Elijah Wood and Michael Rooker. Don’t miss it!

YYCAESARFEST
Created by Walter Chell In 1969, the Caesar is deeply rooted in our YYC’s history so it only makes sense that one of the largest events celebrating the drink be held in Calgary! This May hit the Stampede grounds for a weekend-long sip-stravaganza showcasing creative cocktails made by some of your favourite restaurants and bars. It’s going to be a tasty one, folks! FOODIES IN THE PARK

Another event that we can’t wait to return to? Foodies in the Park, a romantic dome dining experience held in Calgary’s Fish Creek! This season, kicking things off are some of the cities most beloved chefs, who have created an ‘abstract’ menu for you and your special someone. Enjoy!
