Considered a crown jewel of BC, the spot prawn is celebrated for its sweet, delicate flavour and firm texture. On the West Coast, prawn season can last anywhere from six to eight weeks – so now’s the perfect time to treat yourself!

Straight and Marrow

On Thursday, May 27th, Vancouver’s Straight and Marrow will offer diners the chance to indulge in a decadent five-course Spot Prawn Dinner showcasing the versatility of the dish:

  • Spot Prawn Carpaccio,
  • Pork Belly Scallop Spaetzle Spot Prawn Bisque
  • Spot Prawn, Salted Egg, Brown Butter Lettuce Wrap
  • Spot Prawn Etoufee Risotto
  • Corn Panna Cotta with Spot Prawn Powder

When: Thursday, May 27th at 6 pm, 8 pm, and 10 pm

Fanny Bay Oyster Bar and Shellfish Market

Fanny Bay is rolling out a handful of special features, including sashimi-style servings of spot prawn at the raw bar, with the option to add a fried prawn head ($7 per piece, $2 for fried prawn head). As well, guests can add cooked spot prawns to dishes like paella and crab boil ($8 per piece).

Just want the prawns? Diners can enjoy 4 pieces of Grilled Spot Prawns for $30, served with sauce vierge and pickled peppers.

Note that live prawns will be available by the pound at the market for $32/lb.

Five Sails

If you’re looking for a tasting menu to check out, head to Five Sails to enjoy their three-course Spot Prawn Tasting (plus dessert) for $110 per person.

The tasting menu includes Spot Prawn Ceviche, Spot Prawn Ravioli with scallop mousse, Butter Poached Spot Prawns, and a yuzu Curd for dessert.
