According to Southampton’s website, “Southampton is known for its beautiful and unspoiled sandy beaches.”
The area has seven beaches to explore, but the Southampton Main Beach is the most popular. The shoreline stretches four kilometres with a sandy shoreline that’s perfect for lounging by.
If you’re going to be spending the day by the water then you need to check out the natural dune system that’s been intact for a century!
“One of the few intact natural dune systems in Ontario’s urban areas, the dunes protect the shoreline from destructive storm waves,” says Southampton’s website.
“They also provide a suitable environment for numerous types of flora and fauna which flourish in a hot, dry climate. Special grasses have been planted to prevent erosion of the dunes; trails marked by wooden rails allow visitors to view the dunes’ special characteristics without damaging or disturbing this sensitive ecosystem.”
This adorable beach town is worth the weekend stay and luckily there are options such as the stunning Beach Motel.
The Beach Motel is as welcoming as it is beautiful, the perfect spot for a getaway with friends or a loved one.
Make the most of your summer and add Southampton to your must-visit list, Ontario!
