This Ontario village has a beautiful park inspired by a Group of Seven artist

If you love the outdoors then this is a village you can’t miss out on visiting! South River, Ontario, is found near Algonquin in the district of Parry Sound. The area is vast with lakes, forests, wetlands and parks. In fact, one of South River’s most popular parks was inspired by a Group of Seven artist – Tom Thomson.

Parks in South River

The park is named after the famous Canadian artist and according to the South Rivers website, “the design and layout of this park was inspired by the work of Tom Thomson. The park boasts beautiful gardens, a walking path, a staging area, a boat launch and an 18-hole disc golf course.”

South River is the backdrop of this park, a perfect place to stroll while the sun goes down.

Don’t forget to bring your discs! The park is also well-known for its disc golf course. If you’ve never played before the layout at the park is easy to follow and it’s very fun!

South River also has two provincial parks, too! Mikisew Provincial Park is one of the options, a beautiful park with trails that win through lush forests, vibrant ponds and wetlands.

There are also some shallow beaches to relax at during the warmer days.

If you camp overnight, there are sites you can book that are within Red Pine forests and it’s gorgeous this time of year.

The other Ontario park you’ll only be able to access via canoe. There is a paddling entrance to the world-renowned Algonquin Park, where Private outfitters are found near the access point that can equip you or guide you through Algonquin.
