Canada ranks as one of the safest countries for solo women travellers & here’s why

It looks like everyone is starting to travel again and exploring new parts of the world. If you’re looking to take the plunge or simply get out of your comfort zone and do a solo trip, it’s always important to do your research on the country you plan on visiting. As progressive as the world has become, unfortunately, some countries may not be the best to visit alone depending on your gender. That happens to be the case for women travellers.

In a report by luggage storage app Bounce, the company analyzed more than 30 countries around the world for “women’s solo travel safety” based on eight factors: domestic violence, female homicide, safety index score, safest to walk at night, best attitude, strongest laws, and gender equality.

Canada is known for being one of the friendliest countries in the world – it’s our stereotype! According to Bounce, the great white north ranked in eighth place. When it comes to domestic violence, Bounce says that Canada is the nation with the lowest rate.

Apparently, 1.9% of women say that “they have experienced violence from a partner in their lifetime.” This is 20 times lower compared to the worst country on the list.

Overall, Canada scored 6.67 out of 10 when it comes to safety for women.

Ireland came in first place with Austria trailing behind in second. Check out what countries topped the list below:

  1. Republic of Ireland
