This town with six sandy beaches has the most spectacular sunsets in Ontario

Now this vacation town is worth a visit! If you’re a sucker for white sandy beaches and stunning sunsets, you’ll want to plan a trip to Port Elgin. This charming town has 3 km of fine sandy beaches, historical downtown core and lovely sights.

Almost three hours away from Toronto is Port Elgin. Described as a “vacation town” by The County of Bruce, this spot is known for being one of the best vacation destinations in southwestern Ontario, and the beaches are the main attraction.

There are several beaches to enjoy in Port Elgin, six to be exact and the most popular being Main Beach.

“A beach destination since the early 1900’s, with one visit you’ll understand why these white sand beaches and our harbour are one of Ontario best kept vacation secrets,” shares Visit Port Elgin.

This beach does get crowded during the summer months, but there are two nearby spots that offer more tranquillity.

Gobles Grove and Shipley Beach are lesser-known areas but a totally beach oasis.

Shipley Beach is a much smaller beach, more tucked away and Gobles Grove is known for its shallow and clear water.

Port Elgin’s tourism website says that their town is known for its “world-famous sunsets,” and the beach is a great place to watch them.

The towns Northshore Park and harbourfront are also perfect spots to kick back and see the sights.

“Rest awhile on lakeview benches from Northshore Park, along the harbour path and to the beach,” shares the town. “Or, bring a blanket or lawnchair and lounge on the grassy areas (not, however, the dune grass areas!) while taking in the view.”

The town has a lot more to offer than just outdoor amenities, too!

Enjoy its many restaurants, shops, and even charming overnight accommodations for a fun weekend getaway.

So if you’re looking to make the most of the gorgeous summer weather in Ontario, you now know where to go.
