Simu Liu may be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, but he definitely remembers where he came from. The Canadian actor spent the long weekend re-living his childhood memories at a cottage in Muskoka.

Over the weekend, Liu shared a series of photos of himself enjoying the cottage life with his girlfriend Allison Hsu.

In the caption, he called the Muskoka cottage his “safe haven” and gives a heartfelt thank you to the family that hosted him there throughout his life.

“Goshulak Island has been my safe haven for over a decade,” he wrote.

“I’ve lived a lot of life and seen many things in those years, but nothing quite compares the to majesty of the lake.”

“This is the cottage that raised me, made me curious, and gave me the gift of the water,” he continued. “Forever grateful to the family that always welcomes their ‘adopted’ son with open arms and a fresh set of sheets.”

Liu and Hsu got the full cottage country experience — boating, jumping off of the dock, waterskiing, jet skiing, and of course, lazy afternoon naps on the couch.

The actor is one of many stars who spend the summer in Muskoka. In fact, the area is nicknamed the “Hamptons of the North” because of its rich and famous residents.

According to a recent article by Forbes, some of the most famous visitors over the years include Justin Bieber, Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson, and Martin Short.

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg also own cottages in Muskoka, the article says.

Last summer, David and Victoria Beckham enjoyed a family vacation in the Muskoka region.

Mark Wahlberg, Rande Gerber, and NHL legend Tie Domi were also in attendance, according to photos shared by Beckham.

There’s something special about our quintessential cottage summers here in Ontario, and the stars definitely agree!
