If you’re willing to make a day of it, Gananoque or also known to locals as “Gan”, is about a three-hour from Toronto.

Next stop: Gananoque, Ontario

Per the 1000 Islands Tourism site, the town is “internationally recognized as one of Eastern Ontario’s most stunning waterfront communities.” It’s located along the St. Lawrence River.

Gananoque and the surrounding 1000 Islands are actually considered one of North America’s most beautiful and unique destinations. And with reason! Head to town and explore its charming downtown core. You’ll find delicious dining spots, local shops, arts, and culture right here.

Stop by the beloved Riva Restaurant located within a beautifully renovated historic building or for more pub eats, stop by the Stonewater Pub located off the St Lawrence River. Whether you’re heading east towards Ottawa or west to Kingston, Gananoque is the perfect stop if you’re looking to grab a bite or to simply stretch your legs.

Besides its shops and must-try eats, the region is also home to two UNESCO recognized sites; the Rideau Canal and the Frontenac Arch Biosphere, per Destination Ontario.

Adventure & Sightseeing

Hoping to spot a castle? Feast your eyes on the 1000 Islands, which Gan happens to be the gateway to. Destination Ontario shares that Gananoque and the 1000 Islands are home to castles, shipwrecks, National Parks, millionaire mansions, and more.

For stunning views, Destination Ontario recommends hopping aboard City Cruises Gananoque. You can sail past Boldt Castle on Heart Island and Singer Castle on Dark Island. The latter was once home to the founder of Singer sewing machines, how cool is that?

You can find “cute and quirky cottages, historical sites, waterside theatres, food, music, festivals and even a casino.” There’s also a stunning waterfront trail you can explore while you enjoy the wonders of the St. Lawrence River. It’s a perfect all-season adventure!

From antique shops to historical buildings and museum tours, Gananoque is a town full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. So why wait? Start planning your next getaway and experience the magic of this charming riverside town.
