The Seattle Waterfront Overlook Walk project has begun & here’s a first look

If you haven’t been downtown in a while you might just be in for a shock. Why? Well, Seattle’s waterfront is getting a major facelift, however, this facelift has been going on for years. Now the reason why you might be extra aware of it these days is because the Overlook Walk has begun construction.

What is the Overlook Walk? Good question. It’s an elevated park and pedestrian bridge that will connect the waterfront to Seattle’s urban core. People will be able to walk on the elevated pathway from Pike Place Market to the waterfront without ever crossing the new Alaskan Way. What’s more, visitors will get to experience expansive views of Elliott Bay, informal play areas, new public plazas, and beautiful landscaping with native plants.

The new Overlook Walk is one of the bigger aspects of the waterfront project and will also be integrated with Seattle Aquarium’s proposed Ocean Pavilion expansion. The project is so big that it is projected to cost about $70 million when completed. For perspective, the overall budget for the waterfront project is $756 million.
