Summer in October: Seattle just recorded the second warmest day in almost 130 years

It looks like Seattle is going to have to wait a little longer for real fall because well, we just broke another temperature record. The city wasn’t just warm this weekend, it was hot, with temperatures in the high 80s and air quality warnings in effect. Let’s see just which records our city broke.

According to NWS, the 88 degree weather on October 16th was the “second warmest day in almost 130 years of records.” The record holder isn’t far off at 89 degrees on October 1st 1987.

Not only that but new daily max temperature records were recorded at Sea Tac Airport (72 degrees), and in Olympia (85 degrees), and Bellingham (80 degrees).

The combination of high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds has also put parts of the state on high alert for fires. As the Bolt Creek, Loch Katrine and Suiattle River fires rage on, an air quality warning has been issued until 11 AM on October 18th for many parts of the state including the Seattle area.
