Love the idea of living on the water but can’t justify the price tag? We get it, with Bainbridge Island estates and private islands for sale, the idea of waterfront home ownership can seem daunting. But believe it or not, a waterfront lifestyle could be yours for half the price of the median Seattle condo.

The median Seattle condo price currently sits at $664,000, which isn’t all that cheap. So why not check out something that could be entirely yours for a lower price tag? This houseboat on Ballard’s ship canal was custom-built in 1984 and is a truly unique home.

“Hobo” as the seahome is affectionately called is a 450 square foot home on a 30’x15′ perro-cement hull with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. While small, the home has plenty of character with Cherry wood wrapping the entire double-story interior.

Other notable features in the home include the fact that you can see the stars from the sleeping loft due to a roof hatch that opens. The home also has fresh exterior paint above the water line as well as a new water heater and fridge.

Ready for the price? This houseboat costs $300,000. Almost half the price of a median Seattle condo and you can live among a natural habitat full of turtles, birds, and water creatures like beavers and otters. Keep in mind with houseboats you do need to pay a monthly slip fee, which includes liveaboard and utilities for $750.

That being said, it’s certainly much more affordable than many other Seattle homes you see on the market. Happy house hunting!
