This sandstone-covered beach in BC has a cascading waterfall steps from the ocean

Nestled on the west coast of Vancouver Island is one of the most incredible natural beaches in British Columbia, AKA Sandcut Beach at Jordan River Regional Park. Named for its unique sandstone formations, the scenic, cobbled beach is known as one of the most ‘Instagrammable’ destinations in the area, attracting tons of visitors and locals every summer. So consider this your sign to start planning a trip!

Visitors can spot fossilized sea shells revealed little by little as the sandstone erodes. And while you can’t take them home with you, they certainly make for a fantastic story and photo.

Another landmark feature of the 3.5-kilometre-long beach is its 23-foot cascading waterfall – just steps from the ocean.

From the parking lot, visitors can follow a brief, 400-metre hike through ancient coastal rainforest to the beachfront, where spectacular views of the Olympic Peninsula await.

The waterfall is situated at the south end of the beach, and is easily accessed, according to Tourism Victoria.

Despite being an hour and a half away from downtown Victoria, Sandcut Beach remains one of the region’s most popular beachcombing spots. So be aware before you head out – the parking lot tends to fill up pretty quickly on summer days!

So there you have it, Vancouver! If you need some more summer destinations to visit in British Columbia, consider adding Sandcut Beach to your list!
