According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center, some Canadians could see the Northern Lights after dark!

While some may be left in the dark due to cloud coverage, those from coast to coast could be in for a colourful display, as the NOAA has issued a storm watch for just after midnight on the 23rd, the early hours of, July 24th.

“A G2 Watch is in effect for 24 Jul due to the likely arrival of a halo CME that erupted on 21 Jul,” they write on their website.

This means that anyone in major cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver could see hues of green and pink dance from constellation to constellation.

In Toronto or Montreal? Don’t fret, because you may also be able to see lights on the horizon!

“Aurora can often be observed somewhere on Earth from just after sunset or just before sunrise,” they explain.

“The aurora does not need to be directly overhead but can be observed from as much as a 1000 km away when the aurora is bright and if conditions are right.”

If you’d like to see them, we’d recommend leaving the light pollution behind and giving your eyes time to adjust.

Who knows, you could be among the lucky ones!

Good luck, bring snacks, remember to tag us in your photos of the Northern Lights and enjoy!

There’s nothing quite like it!
