If you’re looking for a unique relaxation experience, then we just found it. You can unwind and rejuvenate in your very own Himalayan salt cave – and it’s right here in Calgary!
That’s right, you can get all those salty air benefits without even stepping foot on a beach. Handy when you’re in a land-locked province in the dead of winter. While salt cave spas are still new to North America, salt therapy is an old practice rooted in Eastern Europe.
Joy and Vitality Centre is one of the only places you can enjoy the benefits of salt therapy in Calgary. They have daily halotherapy sessions available where you can lounge in the stunning Himalayan salt cave and feel the stress in your body melt away. You can even book a sound bath for your salt cave session!
Modern dry salt therapy originates from the salt mines and caves in Russia and Eastern Europe. It was discovered that salt miners were receiving many natural respiratory and health benefits by breathing in the salt particles. This was pretty surprising considering that mining jobs were usually known to be dangerous to life and health.
The salt cave at Joy and Vitality Centre in Calgary is made up of floor-to-ceiling Himalayan pink salt for a stunning ambiance and impressive purported healing properties. The salt cave is equipped with a medical device called a Halo Generator which grinds 99.9% Pure USP Grade NaCL salt into microscopic particles and releases them into the air which is meant to provide all-natural respiratory and skin benefits.
According to the spa’s website, 40 minutes in the salt cave delivers the same benefits as three days of relaxing by the ocean.
You can book a private or group session for up to eight people where you recline in zero-gravity chairs, breathe deeply, and relax while soft music plays. The cave is kept at 18-20 degrees to recreate the salt mine microclimates found in Eastern Europe. Blankets are provided for maximum coziness, so dress comfy and breathe deeply.
You can book a 40-minute solo or group salt therapy session online any day of the week. The salt cave is reserved for one person at a time or family and friends who book a group session.
If you’re in a rush, there’s also an individual salt booth that you can book for a 20-minute session. It works just like the salt cave but in a compact, enclosed halotherapy unit. The booth disperses the same tiny dry salt particles into the air so you still get all the benefits on a time crunch.
Joy and Vitality Centre also offers additional wellness services such as sound baths, energy healing, RMT massage therapy, and yoga events.
Check out this salt cave in Calgary for a one-of-a-kind wellness retreat. If you’re craving a little me-time, you really can’t find a more unique experience in the city than this!
