This festival in B.C is all about strawberries & it will have $2 ice cream

Spring is here, which has us thinking about summer. And one of our favourite things to do during warmer months is to check out festivals around B.C, just like the Saanich Strawberry Festival which returns this July.

Taking place on Beaver Beach, at Elk Lake Regional Park, this is the 57th year of the annual Strawberry Festival on Vancouver Island.

The free event kicks off at 11 am on Sunday, July 7th, and you can expect family fun, along with “more strawberries than you can handle!”

One of the best parts about the festival include the ice cream, which costs $2 per serving. And they are introducing something new this year!

“This family-friendly, fun, free event features live music, kids’ activities, bouncy castles, information booths, arts and craft stations and, of course, the traditional servings of strawberries and ice cream,” states the Festival’s website.

As for what’s new this year, they will have a farmers’ market selling fresh produce and berries!

The strawberries and ice cream will be on sale from 2 to 4 pm, or generally until they sell out.

Because this is a popular event, organizers say there will be overflow parking in the grass area just off Elk Lake, and a shuttle bus will be running from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

As per the festival, “The shuttle will pick up guests at Saanich Commonwealth Place near the main entrance roundabout (location #1), then will stop at the overflow parking lot (location #2) and will drop off at the Beaver Beach main parking lot (location #3). The shuttle will continue this loop until 4:00 pm. We recommend taking transit to the Royal Oak Transit Exchange and then walking the short distance to Commonwealth Pool to catch a shuttle.”

Ready to celebrate local agriculture, and your love for strawberries? Mark this July weekend on your calendar, and get ready to hop on the ferry!
