Ryan Reynolds is opening Canada’s “largest film and TV production hub” in Ontario

If there’s one Hollywood star that sticks to his Canadian roots, it’s Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool actor will be bringing his production company to Canada and opening a hub in Ontario.

As first reported by Variety, Maximum Effort, Reynolds and co-founder George Dewey’s production and advertising company, is part of an ownership group for a new, massive studio being built in Markham.

The new 1.2 million-square-foot space is just one of the first few projects for a “$1.5 billion private-equity fund” that will primarily hold real estate, sports, media, and venture capital to the forefront, according to Variety.

Construction on the new production studio has yet to begin and its end date is unknown at the moment but according to Variety, it will be the “largest film and TV production hub in Canada.”

The studio will be fully equipped for movies, scripted and unscripted reality TV, drama series, live-action, and animated feature films, too. And for ‘vocational training’, it will have a “virtual production campus” and technical incubator.

“Maximum Effort has grown in ways and directions that we’ve never imagined,” said Reynolds via Variety.

“To be launching a fund and building a 1.2 million-square-foot studio facility in Ontario is both mind-boggling and humbling. Regardless, I’m excited to expand our storytelling capabilities in new directions and to bring more production work to Ontario.”

Maybe there was more to the visit when Reynolds stopped by Seneca College not too long ago. We’d like to think so!

At least we know why he was in Markham after being spotted at a local restaurant in the area.
