It looks like Ryan Reynolds has been keeping things busy as of late – especially in the sporting area. Joining his co-purchase of Welsch football club Wrexham AFC back in 2020 is a new investment, this time in auto racing. With the help of an investment group, Reynolds and investors have officially secured a 24% stake in the Alpine F1 team for €200 million in cash.

Formed of Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners, and Maximum Effort Investments, the group of investors has worked with the NFL and various football clubs, including Reynolds’ own Wrexham AFC.

As for the Alpine team, the news comes on the heels of a wider announcement setting the company’s goal of achieving €8 billion in revenue by 2030 – and breaking even in 2026.

“Formula 1 and Alpine are strategic assets for Renault Group,” says Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo. “Over the past two years, we have re-ignited Alpine, capitalising on its iconic A110 sports coupe, boosting it by entering Formula 1, where it aims to become a championship contender. This partnership will accelerate Alpine F1 development by diversifying revenue drivers and increasing brand value.”

Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi adds that the investment marks a much-needed boost in support for the team, as Vancouver’s own Reynolds and the other investors are no strangers to helping sporting teams get a leg up.

“This association is an important step to enhance our performance at all levels. First, Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments, as international players with a strong track record in the sports industry, will bring their recognized expertise to boost our media and marketing strategy, essential to support our sporting performance over the long term,” said Rossi.

“Second, the incremental revenue generated will in turn be reinvested in the team, in order to further accelerate our Mountain Climber plan, aimed at catching up with top teams in terms of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.”

So there you have it, Vancouver. Another interesting development in the sporting world thanks to our fave local celeb.
