If you’re someone who values getting their steps in like I do, then you’re always looking for the next place to take an adventure on foot. Rondeau Provincial Park is one of the handful of Ontario Parks open during the winter months meaning you can enjoy the trials any time of year.
Rondeau is home to multiple trails that not only offer a great workout but also views of beautiful 200-year-old trees within a rare Carolinian forest.
Grab your walking buddy!
Rondeau Provincial Park is tucked along Lake Erie in Morpeth, Ontario.
Driving from Toronto/the GTA will take you around three hours and 45 minutes. There is a park fee you’ll need to pay to spend the day at Rondeau, starting at $12.25 per vehicle.
I hope you’re ready to get some steps in. The Harrison Trail is a 16km loop that travels the entire length of the park and “passes through a variety of habitats including Oak Woodland, Oak Savanna, small prairie openings and Carolinian forest.”
The Carolinian forest offers views of rare Carolinian, some up to 200 years old.
If you’re looking for a wheelchair-accessible trail, check out the Tulip Tree Trail. This path is barrier-free and travels through a mature Carolinian forest with the majority of the way along a boardwalk.
If it’s not too chilly, end your day by strolling along the 11 km of beaches at Rondeau. The shores of Lake Erie are beautiful during every season, just be sure to bundle up.
Heading to the park when there’s snow on the ground? Rondeau’s wide variety of trails hold up in the winter making them perfect for snow activities.
Visitors are welcome to ski and snowshoe along the park trails. Love to fish? If conditions are safe, visitors are allowed to ice fish in the park, you’ll just need to consult the most current Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary beforehand.
A perfect little getaway awaits!
