Canada has been rocked this year with blistering winds, freezing rain and more snow than even frosty would know what to do with. It’s been freaking chilly and on the worst days, there’s nothing that’ll get us motivated enough to leave the house – but alas, life goes on! Luckily, no thanks to the pandemic, there’s actually a whole that we can do from home, some of which can be pretty romantic. If you’re in a relationship, are trying to woo someone special or are looking for something new to do with your roommates, here are 10 indoor ‘date’ ideas for when it’s too darn cold outside – that isn’t just ‘watch Netflix.’

TAKE A VIRTUAL TRIP AROUND THE WORLD

Google Earth, live cams, photo galleries. There are about a hundred ways to travel without going through airport security or hopping on a plane. Maybe a trip you had planned was derailed, or you just need to see something that isn’t the living room wall. Don that Tommy Bahama, climb aboard a magic area carpet and show each other the world.

SOLVE A MYSTERY TOGETHER

Alright, Columbo – put on that thinking cap because there’s a world of whodunnits to solve on websites like ReElivate and Kieth and Margo. From murders to fictional cold cases, follow the clues, solve some riddles and bond over your shared love for a good storyline.

TAKE A VIRTUAL WORKOUT CLASS TOGETHER

Share screens or your living room and take a yoga class or something together! The couple that sweats together, stays together, right? That’s what we’ve been told by the Instagram influencers anyway. Here are just a few offered online by folks in Downtown Canada!

BUILD A “BLANKET THEATRE”

Okay, so we know that we mentioned that we wouldn’t suggest ‘Netflix’ – but movies play an important role in every relationship. This being said, there are ways you can “add a little bit of… spice.” This weekend, build a good ol’ fort around the screen and fill it with snacks, pillows and enthusiasm. What you watch is up to you – but don’t forget the popcorn!

VIRTUALLY ATTEND A COMEDY SHOW

Has it been a while since your last deep belly laugh? Tune into one of the many, MANY live comedy shows offered around Canada and beyond. From satirical acts to family live giggles, there is plenty of funny-folk performing via your favourite streaming service.

Almost every liquor store sells individual tallboys, grab a few funky-looking cans that you’ve never tried before, or snag a few bottles of rose, red or white and “test” away. Heck, level up and take one of Airbnb’s online experiences like this Argentinian wine class or this mezcal and tequila cocktail making class

GO TO THE “MUSEUM”

Are you the ‘cultured couple?’ Suit up and travel around the world on a spectacular self-guided museum around the globe. In one night you can hit up the Louvre’, the Smithsonian, and the Guggenheim with a selection of free, online museum tours.

GET DRESSED UP AND DINE LIKE ROYALTY

All dressed up and nowhere to go may sound like a tagline for a failed evening with friends – but it can also be quite fun! Tonight, tomorrow or this weekend, suit up, stay in and order yourselves some fancy grub – because you owe each other a “how you doing” after the year we’ve just had.

HAVE A GAME NIGHT

Pull out that Twister mat, the Jenga, or share screens and play a round of something on Jack Box. Do you even know your significant other if you’ve never played a game of high stakes game of Monopoly or chess together?

There you have it, friends. Just a few indoor date night ideas to get you started – because man, oh man, is it chilly out there!
