One of the best lookout hikes in Ontario leads to breathtaking autumn sights

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., is known for being a dream to any outdoors lover, and Robertston Cliffs is one of the reasons why. Considered one of the best lookout hikes in the province, this spot will take your breath away any time of year, but especially in the fall.

Robertson Cliffs is located about 30 minutes north of Sault Ste. Marie, just east of the Trans-Canada Highway, Highway 17.

It’s quite the journey from Toronto, around seven and a half hours by car, but the views are well worth the trip.

Once you arrive, there are three parking areas at the trailheads that visitors can use.

You’ll need to make sure you come prepared with proper clothing and shoes for hiking.

The route to the top will take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours, depending on which trail you take, and the same amount of time on your way back down.

Sault Ste. Marie Tourism describes the hike as “moderate” in difficulty because “there is some scrambling over rocks, small streams, and occasional trees.”

Once you arrive at the clifftop, prepare to be amazed. As someone who used to live in the Soo and do this hike regularly, it gets more gorgeous each time.

There are three main lookouts where you can see autumn hues stretch for miles across Bellevue Valley and as far as Lake Superior! The trails are marked and maintained to ensure hikers have a great experience, too.

Colours get vibrant anywhere from late September to early October, so plan accordingly, Ontario!
