Ontario has one of the only swinging bridges in Canada & it crosses a river

Ontario is home to tons of scenic bridges, but this one stands apart from the rest. Renfrew Swinging Bridge is one of the only bridges of its kind in Canada — one of three, to be exact!

This unique bridge crosses the rushing Bonnechere River and dates way back to the 1800s.

According to the town of Renfrew, the W.H. Kearney family first built a suspension bridge across the Bonnechere in 1885.

A modern reconstruction using wood and cable was conducted in 1983 by the Town of Renfrew and later upgraded again in 2015.

Visitors can wander their way across the bridge overlooking the river and the nearby power generation plant.

Don’t be alarmed when the bridge sways from side to side as you make your way to the other side!

This Ontario park with floating boardwalks is an enchanting hidden gem

If you’re somewhat of a bridge enthusiast, you’re in luck. We’ve got many beautiful ones to tell you about.

First, there’s the longest suspension bridge in southern Ontario which hovers above a vast forest.

There’s also the swaying suspension bridge above a breathtaking waterfall in Pukaskwa National Park.

At Ferris Provincial Park, you’ll find an absolutely amazing pedestrian footbridge that is even more spectacular in the fall.

And we’d be remiss not to mention the gorgeous wooden bridge at Belfountain Conservation Area that overlooks cascading waters.

Needless to say, you’ve got plenty of spots to cross off your list.

They’re best enjoyed in the summer and fall, so start planning those day trips because the timing couldn’t be better!
