With Thanksgiving and Halloween behind us and the holiday season on its way, it can be easy to forget that we actually have another stat holiday coming up. Remembrance Day in Canada is observed in 9 provinces and territories to commemorate those who have fought for our country, including BC. In Vancouver, there are several ceremonies and events going on on Friday, November 11th to recognize the contributions of our soldiers and veterans.

Vancouver’s JUNO-nominated choir Chor Leoni is beginning their season with their 31st annual Remembrance Day observance at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United in downtown Vancouver. This year’s program of music and readings features diverse perspectives on war and injustice.

Tickets range from $20 to $50, depending on seating selection, admission is free for all active or retired members of the military.

Remembrance Day at Trout Lake 

The Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting a free family-friendly event on November 11th from 10 am to noon with arts & crafts, games, and even a bouncy castle.

Remembrance Day Concert – North Vancouver & South Delta

The Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir and Delta Concert Band is performing with The Delta Concert Band on Sunday, November 6th at the Centennial Theatre in North Van, and you can get tickets here. According to an Instagram post, the concert program includes familiar pieces such as In Flanders Fields, Finlandia Hymn, and more.

And on Friday, November 11th, they’ll be performing at the South Delta Baptist Church in Tsawwassen.

Remembrance Day Ceremony at UBC

Since the opening of the War Memorial Gym at UBC, the university has always held a ceremony commemorating November 11th. This year will mark 72 years since the first ceremony and will bring faculty, staff, and students for a series of short readings, remarks from special guests, and musical performances by UBC’s School of Music.

Remembrance Day in Maple Ridge

On Friday, November 11th, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #88 will return to Memorial Peace Park for a Remembrance Day Ceremony. A parade will commence in downtown Maple Ridge at 10:30 am and end at the cenotaph. And afterwards, the national anthem will be sung, followed by the official ceremony, which includes the Laying of the Wreaths.
