This Alberta gem is littered with red spherical rocks that are among the largest in Canada

From flat grassy Prairies to the Rocky Mountains, Wild Rose Country has some beautiful landscapes but one destination is out of of this world.

Located just north of Medicine Hat, Alberta, the Red Rock Coulee can only be described as where “Earth meets Mars” and is the perfect place for a unique pit stop or quick photoshoot.

Famed for its red, sandstone concretions this natural area is home to the best examples of spheroid rock formations in the province, and while we haven’t seen them all, we’re inclined to agree.

“Concretions measure up to 2.5 metres across and are believed to be among the largest in the world,” Parks Alberta explains on their website, adding that there are also hoodoos and more “eroded steep-sided coulees.”

White-tailed jackrabbits, mule deer, and pronghorn occupy the area as well as western rattlesnakes, short-horned lizards, bull snakes, and even scorpions, which are rare in Alberta.

This area really is something adventurers, so pack up and head over!

There’s nothing quite like it!
