“There are still a number of variables at play,” he assured Curiocity, “but – what we are looking at is higher confidence in a more unsettled pattern, as well as colder than normal conditions for basically all of Alberta as we start October.”

“Right now there is a system forecasted for sometime mid-week [October 2nd-6th],” though it’s important to note that things change every day. In fact, as Shelley explained to us, Calgary was originally projected to get about a foot of snow on October 5th.

As of today, however? The southern city might only get 1 cm come Thursday.

The bright side? Like the month itself, it’ll come and go in a flash, returning to warmer temperatures for the rest of October.

“As a whole, It’s still forecasted that October will, on average, be above normal in terms of temperature,” he said.

“Just that first week or so is expected to be below normal, but the longer range models, sort of by mid-month, have us getting back to that warmer-than-normal pattern.”
