This Ontario park has new wooden pods that are long weekend camping goals

Are you itching to go camping? Well, check out the recently launched wooden camping pods at Ontario’s Quetico Provincial Park. They’re available year-round and even this May long weekend. Here’s what to know.

According to Ontario Parks, these pods are made in Ontario and are typically made out of wood, shaped like tents, lodges, or caravans. “The custom made Quetico pods reflect a caravan or den-like appearance and are made in Ontario, supporting Ontario wood manufacturers.”

Quetico offers these two camping pods in the Chippewa Campground inside the larger Dawson Trail Campground.

It’s important to note that there is a two-night minimum stay and a three-night minimum stay on long weekends.

During your stay

When you book your camping experience, inside you will find a queen over-queen bunk bed, table, bench, electric power, electric baseboard heat, a rear window, and a lockable glass front door with a curtain.

The camping pod sleeps up to four people and is now available to reserve year-round.

There’s a covered wooden porch, a barbecue, a picnic table, and a campfire pit too.

Though it may seem like everything you need is inside the pod, you should bring your regular camping gear, along with food, drinking water (in off-season), a camp stove, utensils, dishes, pots and pans, blankets, linens, and pillows, according to Ontario Parks.

There’s an outhouse toilet nearby and shower facilities at comfort stations available throughout the summer months.

Parking for one car is included in the reservation price.

Smoking and open flames are not allowed inside the pods and unfortunately, pets are not allowed.

What to do at Quetico Provincial Park?

According to Ontario Parks, Quetico is “renowned for its rugged beauty, towering rock cliffs, majestic waterfalls, virgin pine, and spruce forests, picturesque rivers and lakes.”

With 2,000 lakes and 460,000 hectares of remote wilderness, this park is said to be a “world-famous” destination for backcountry canoeing.

Not only is it ideal for camping, canoeing, and hiking, but also for star-gazing. Quetico is a recognized International Dark Sky Park.

It received the designation from the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) for its incredible views of the night sky, making it an ideal place to witness meteor showers and moon phases.
