Summer is heating up big time in our province, which means a trip to Port Burwell Beach is in order. Why, you ask? Well, it is easily one of the best spots for swimming in our whole province.

According to Great Lakes Guide, Port Burwell is the “jewel of Lake Erie’s northern shore.”

This beach boasts 2.5 km of pristine sandy shorelines and warm Blue Flag-certified waters, making it the perfect place to swim for visitors of all ages.

Lake Erie is the smallest of the Great Lakes and it’s also the shallowest, according to The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA).

That means that it warms up quickly in the spring and summer and then cools down quickly in the fall.

“The shallowness of the basin and the warmer temperatures make it the most biologically productive of the Great Lakes,” says the US EPA.

The nearby Port Burwell Provincial Park is a popular summer destination thanks to all its exciting activities such as fishing, boating, bird watching, thrilling hiking trails, and, of course, the beach.

Out of the two hiking trails available, the Beach trail is by far the most serene.

The trail starts at the campground and leads you to the beach. That’s where you’ll find a lookout point with a great view of Lake Erie and the beach below.

The trail traverses a 20 m bluff offering that picture-perfect opportunity.

This spot is perfect for dogs too! There is a dog beach and pet exercise area for your four-legged friend to enjoy.

So, whether you’re visiting for the day or a weekend camping trip, you can look forward to some gorgeous scenery and ideal swimming conditions!
