This Alberta town is known as the ‘jewel of the Rockies’ & it’s only 30 minutes from Waterton National Park

There’s no place quite like Wild Rose Country. From bustling cities to small towns, there’s plenty to discover from Wood Buffalo National Park to Lethbridge, but the ‘Jewel of the Rockies‘ is among the most charming.

Located 30 minutes from Waterton National Park, Pincher Creek offers mountain views and a wide range of outdoor activities – even when it’s covered in snow!

“Winter is a season when Pincher Creek truly sparkles,” they write on their website.

“Whether you take in the beauty from the back of a horse-drawn sleigh or set out on snowshoes, there are many ways to enjoy our winter wonderland.”

From cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to cozy bed and breakfasts, those looking for a staycation are in for a treat. But consider visiting again when the flowers bloom.

In the warmer months, enjoy everything from the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village (open year round but best in the spring/summer) golfing, camping, rock climbing and boating to hiking and trail rides, then check out the surrounding areas.

From the dazzling Castle Region to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, you’re in close proximity to some of Alberta’s most beautiful and informative tourist destinations.

Plus if you’re hoping to extend your trip you can easily hop on the Cowboy Trail, a 700 km stretch between the Canadian Prairie and the Rocky Mountains.

Want to check it out? Next time you’ve got an open weekend pack up and head out – but don’t forget the road snacks!

It’s a bit of a drive – but is totally worth the trip.
