This Alberta park with sweeping views is one of the “most beautiful places on Earth”

Fall is in full swing, and if you’re looking for somewhere to take a hike, take some photos, or get some fresh air, look no further than Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in Alberta.

Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

Located southwest of Calgary, this scenic area has 304 square kilometres to explore.

With towering trees and wildlife, visitors should come prepared with comfortable shoes and a sense of wonder, as well as a map, snacks, and a friend or family member—after all, this particular experience is best shared!

According to Outside, the park is among the “13 Most Beautiful Places on Earth You’ve Never Heard Of,” along with the Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah, and Lefkada Island in Greece.

What to expect

Into hiking, biking or picnicking? You’re in luck!

Peter Lougheed Provincial Park preserves “a landscape of glacier-capped peaks surrounding the Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes,” and is revered for its postcard-like appearance and its golden larch trees in the fall.

If, of course, you’d like to stay the night, you can even check in to the newly renovated William Watson Lodge, which has a great view of Lower Kananaskis Lake and features accessible cottages, as well as 13 campsites and prioritizes people with disabilities and seniors.

Only have time for a drive? Check out Highwood Pass.
