This provincial park is located in the centre of an Ontario town

The spring season is just around the corner. And that means we’ll soon see the stunning green foliage take over Ontario’s natural landscape, especially throughout its parks. If you’re planning your next road trip and would love to hit the outdoors this spring, make your way to the Ottawa region. In one of its surrounding towns, you’ll find a small provincial park – offering the joys of the outdoors and the fun of exploring local towns. Here’s what to know about Petawawa Terrace Provincial Park.

About an hour and a half away from Ottawa is Petawawa, Ontario, situated between the Petawawa River and the Ottawa River. This town offers all-season joys from sandy beaches to snowshoeing adventures.

The town is an outdoor playground, filled with walking trails, ATV and water routes, waterfalls, water rapids, and even a provincial park.

According to the official Petawawa site, the park is located right in the centre of the town, taking over 215 hectares of green space.

“Please note that there are no Ontario Parks visitor services, facilities or activities at this park,” states the town. “Also, the map signage is outdated. There are a few extra side trails not shown and other trails are overgrown or inaccessible at various times of the year.”

So if you’re going out to explore the park, make sure you are wearing the proper footwear to ensure your safety.

And after a long day of exploring, fuel up at one of the many local restaurants in Petawawa. The County of Renfew offers an interactive map featuring food services in the county, including in Petawawa.

Do yourself a favour and plan a trip to eastern Ontario – you won’t regret it.
