One thing about Ontario is that it’s filled with adorable, charming small towns. From towns nestled along the shore to areas with rolling hills, it’s hard to narrow down the ones that top the list. For us, Perth, Ontario is an easy choice and it helps that it’s considered one of the province’s prettiest towns.
It will take you around three and a half hours by car to get to Perth if you’re leaving from Toronto.
The small town is located on the Tay River, around 85 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.
So, what is there to do in one of the prettiest towns in Ontario?
Tay River flows through Perth, so if you’re up for waterfront views then you’ve come to the right place.
Several scenic bridges span along the river and lead to the area’s main features including the famous Stewart Park, which is home to the Stewart Park Rainbow Bridge, a rustic restored mill, lush gardens, and towering trees.
Stewart Park is actually what makes Perth the “wedding capital of eastern Ontario,” according to its website, a very romantic setting to exchange vows.
While you’re strolling through Perth you have to stop at the town’s farmer’s market – open until mid-October.
The Perth Farmer’s Market has over 40 local vendors to check out ranging from food stands to candles!
Outdoors lover? There are some great trails in Perth, too!
The Tay River Trail is a historic pathway and portage site that dates back to the military settlement of Perth-upon-Tay in the early 1800s!
There’s also the Rideau Trail, which runs through downtown Perth and makes for a great walk along the Tow Path. Just outside of the town, you’ll find the Wildlife Reserve, which has a self-guided trail near the Tay Marsh.
Happy exploring!
