Up above the world so high, there’s no meteor shower more beautiful than the Perseids.
Described by The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as the best of the year, this spectacular display will soon dazzle Canadians from coast to coast, and you won’t want to miss it.
With incredibly bright meteors that leave “long wakes of light and color behind them,” the Perseids have been active since July 14th but will peak on August 12th of 2024.

The first full Supermoon of the year will shine over Canada this August
“The moon will be a 1st quarter and 50% illuminated during 2024’s peak of the Perseid meteor shower. So the best time to watch for Perseids will be starting around midnight until dawn,” they explain on Earth Sky.
“This shower rises to a peak gradually, then falls off rapidly. And Perseid meteors tend to strengthen in number as late night deepens into the wee hours before dawn. The shower is often best just before dawn.”

As long as there is no cloud coverage, anyone with their peepers pointed north could see over 100 ‘shooting stars’ per hour without binoculars or a telescope – however, you’ll want to escape the light pollution!
In Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, and cities in between, this enchanting event will be well worth watching, so mark your calendar, pack a bag and some snacks, then head out of the city – it’s going to be magical!
