Edmonton is getting an outdoor concert series with music from ‘Wicked’ and ‘Superman’

Symphony Under The Sky is Edmonton’s yearly summer tradition, bringing along an exciting selection of film favourite scores and taking them outdoors for an incredible live performance.

You’ll be able to experience movie music magic at the upcoming Symphony Under The Sky concerts in Edmonton. From Wicked to Harry Potter, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) has a lineup of excellent music from some of the most popular movies for its Hollywood at Hawrelak series. During these concerts, you’ll be able to sit and watch these musicians play surrounded by family and friends for the show of a lifetime.

If you’re looking to get tickets for the upcoming September shows, we’ve got all the details you’ll need.

What to know before attending Symphony Under The Sky

When is Hollywood at Hawrelak?

Symphony Under The Sky is coming up this September, and Hollywood at Hawrelak has three performances happening: one on Thursday the 3rd at 7 p.m., one on Saturday the 5th at 2 p.m., and a final one on Monday the 7th at 7 p.m.

Where does Symphony Under The Sky take place?

This year, the event will be returning to Hawrelak Park following its reopening. During the time the park was closed, the event was held at Churchill Square.

How do I get to Hawrelak Park?

There is limited parking available at Hawrelak Park, so the ESO recommends taking the free ETS shuttle to the Amphitheatre from Windsor Car Park if possible. There’s a flat parking fee of $6 per vehicle. The shuttle service runs 2 and a half hours before the performance and one hour after the performance ends.

What music will the ESO perform?

Hollywood at Hawrelak is the theme of this event, and it certainly shows in the lineup. This outdoor concert will feature music from Titanic, K-pop Demon Hunters, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast, amongst loads of other great films.

For a full peek at what movie soundtracks will make an appearance, you can check out the Edmonton Symphony’s website. Though you’ll want to keep in mind that the program is subject to change.

Can I bring food and drinks?

Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages will be permitted on-site, but outside alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.

Though, if you want to grab something on-site, you can expect to see a variety of different food vendors available before and during the performances. This will include two Winspear Centre concession tents with non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages available for purchase.

Do we have to bring our own chairs?

Depending on where your tickets are, yes, you will have to bring your own seating. If you have purchased grass seating, also known as general admission, it’s recommended to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the performance.

Those in reserved seating will have fixed seats.

How much are tickets?

You can purchase your tickets online on the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra’s website. Pricing starts at $59 for general admission and goes up from there.

As of Aug. 17, tickets are sold out for the Saturday, Sept. 5 performance. Good news, however, is that there are still some tickets left for Thursday and Monday.

What happens if it rains?

If the event experiences inclement weather, the performance will be moved indoors to the Winspear Centre at the same start time.

For those with grass seating, if the event moves location, these tickets will be refunded automatically to the original method of payment within seven to 10 business days of the event date, and you will not be granted access to the Winspear Centre for the indoor performance.
