This Canadian province is one of the most underrated travel spots in the world

Need some travel inspiration? It’s time to think outside the box. Although Cancun, Mexico, sounds like my cup of tea, a new roundup is showing some love to destinations that don’t always get the attention they deserve. Time Out has just released its list of the world’s most underrated travel spots, and one Canadian destination has earned a well-deserved place on it.

The leading global media and hospitality business has updated its list of the world’s most underrated travel destinations, finding that travellers are seeking cooler climates and embracing slow travel. Speaking on behalf of casual travellers, we would love to discover somewhere new.

Methodology

You won’t find hot spots in this list, according to Time Out. “What you will find is the hidden side of Yosemite, the French Riviera’s overlooked twin, a place where penguins outnumber people, and plenty more travel inspo where that came from,” it shares.

Each spot on the list was hand-picked by one of its expert editors and travel writers. They’ve been to all of them, so it’s safe to say they’re pros at this.

The list highlights 33 underrated destinations. In no particular order, you’ll find names like Cuenca, Ecuador; Cochamó Valley, Chile; Srebrenik, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and so on.

At 17 on the list is none other than Canada’s smallest province: Prince Edward Island.

As Time Out puts it, “Prince Edward Island is proof that good things come in small packages.”

The list praises the region’s “parabolic dunes and endless sandy shorelines”, highlighting its island-wide walking trail that takes you through wetlands, farmland and along the famous red sandstone cliffs.

It’s a seafood lover’s paradise, too! We’re talking lobster, mussels, oysters, you name it. Time Out doesn’t skip out on the chance to give a shout-out to the province’s Blue Mussel Café located in North Rustico. It recommends trying the chowder poutine — how Canadian.

So while jetting off to other corners of the world might sound appealing, for us here in Canada, it turns out you don’t need to venture too far to experience something unforgettable.

Sometimes, the most underrated adventures are here at home.
