This Ontario town is a gem on the shores of the world’s largest freshwater archipelago

Fall season calls for pumpkin patches, hiking trips and small town adventures! And nothing beats a waterfront town this time of year. If you’re looking for inspiration, along the shores of Georgian Bay is where you’ll find what’s considered a “world-renowned” jewel – the lovely Ontario town of Parry Sound.

Your adventure begins two hours north of Toronto, towards Parry Sound. In 2004, UNESCO designated the area as a World Biosphere Reserve, the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve, per the town.

This town is a hidden gem located on the shores of the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, also known as the 30,000 islands, according to its website.

What to know about Parry Sound

According to the town, it is rich in arts, culture and heritage.

Explore the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts and Bobby Orr Hall of Fame while you’re in town.

“The stunning scenery throughout the region attracts visitors from around the world to experience its marine heritage sites, lighthouses, towering cliffs and clear, sparkling waters,” shares Destination Ontario.

Outdoor adventures in Parry Sound

That being said, while you’re there, head out for a hike! The 6 km Rotary and the Algonquin Regiment Fitness Trail can be found along the waterfront, linking to the North Shore Rugged Trail.

Besides the town’s wonderful location, it’s actually home to three provincial parks – Killbear Provincial ParkOastler Lake Provincial Park and Massasauga Provincial Park.

“Fall in Parry Sound means sweater weather- crisp days with evenings punctuated by beautiful sunsets,” shares the tourism site. Isn’t that lovely?

There’s also the incredible Tower Hill Lookout, an observation tower that stands tall at 30 metres high, overlooking Georgian Bay and the surrounding landscape. It’s a sight to see.

Lots to do and so much to see this season! So head out to Parry Sound before it gets too cold. But then again, the winter season is another adventure you should experience up north.
