Oschmann Forest Conservation Area is a wonderful outdoor experience if you’re looking for a wholesome adventure that combines nature, history, and a dash of sweetness. This charming woodland is the perfect destination for families and nature enthusiasts eager to learn about maple syrup production while also enjoying the outdoors. Here’s what to know.
Nestled in a serene spot just minutes away from Ottawa is where you’ll find this conservation area.
According to the South Nation Conservation, the Oschmann Forest was donated to the organization back in 2017 by the Oschmann family in an effort to “maintain their natural legacy.”
It is the SNC’s newest home for their flagship Maple Syrup Education Program and it is home to a lovely trail.
“For George Oschmann, donating the forest wasn’t just about preserving cherished memories, but it was also about preserving the natural beauty of the Oschmann Forest – and all that it has to offer – for generations to come,” shared SNC.
Take a stroll along the interpretive 1.2 km trail, where you will encounter informative signs sharing the secrets of this vibrant ecosystem.
Towering Maple, Oak, and Butternut trees stand tall, showcasing the forest’s rich diversity. But what you find along the trail is worth the trip.
In the forest lies its sweetest gem: a heritage sugar shack. According to SNC, this shack was used by the Oschmann family until the early 2000s to transform sap into golden maple syrup.
Whether you’re craving fresh air, a walk in the woods, or a taste of history, the Oschmann Forest Conservation Area promises a delightful day out.
So lace up your walking shoes and hit the outdoors.
Nature is calling.
