Another stat holiday is nearly here – but before we soak up the sun, get some fresh air and party hardy – we’ve got some housekeeping to do. First and foremost? You’ve got to make some plans – which means you’ll need to know what’s open and what’s closed in Edmonton on Labour Day.

Not sure where to go and what to do? We’ve got you! Here’s what you need to know ahead of this Monday.

OPEN

MOVIE THEATRES

Hoping to catch a flick this Monday? Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex locations across the city will all be open so pop some corn and settle in!

MALLS

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, West Edmonton Mall, Old Strathcona, Kingsway, Southgate Centre and Edmonton City Centre malls will be open.

EDMONTON VALLEY ZOO

What’s new at the zoo? Well, in addition to their regular programming and the adorable exhibits, you can check out some stunning Lego art as well!

Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road

EDMONTON-OWNED GOLF COURSES

Time to swing the sticks! Edmonton’s municipal golf courses will also be open this holiday Monday, alongside some driving ranges for those not willing to devote 4 hours of their day to get out. Enjoy!

BOWLING ALLEYS

Want something that requires a little less commitment? Some of the best bowling alleys in the city will be open, whether you’re after 5-pin or 10.

GROCERY & LIQUOR STORES

Having a BBQ? Need milk or need to do a last-minute beer run? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Monday.

Science rules! Especially when you get to check out some amazing family-friendly exhibitions and then maybe treat yourself to a movie inside the IMAX, or a little light show in the Zeidler Dome.

FORT EDMONTON PARK

Hoping for a full day of fun both indoors and out? Fort Edmonton Park is the place to be, offering a mix of midway rides, restaurants, and exhibitions all focused on the history of Alberta!

Where:  7000 143 St NW, Edmonton

MUSEUMS

This Monday you will be able to visit several Edmonton museums like the Royal Alberta Museum, The Neon Sign Museum and The Alberta Railway Museum!

U OF A BOTANIC GARDEN

A little Labour Day road trip? Why not? Our first option for those looking to get outta town is the U of A Botanic Garden, which offers hundreds of acres of incredible gardens and makes a great destination for those who crave a relaxed day outside.

Where: 51227 AB-60, Parkland County

CLOSED

CITY-OWNED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND LEISURE CENTRES

Sorry, folks – but this Heritage Day, all city-owned pools, indoor and outdoor, as well as fitness and rec centres will be closed in lieu of the Stat holiday. Don’t worry though, it won’t be long until they reopen.

POST OFFICES

Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Labour Day (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.

While grocery and convenience stores will be open, Costco will be unshoppabe this Monday. Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot dog fix before Labour Day!

GOVERNMENT OFFICES

From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Labour Day.

But there you have it, friends. Everything that’s open/closed this Labour Day in Edmonton. Please be sure to double-check the hours of operation no matter where you’re headed and enjoy the day! Here’s to sun, fun and family.
