Another stat holiday? Already? You better believe it! On Monday, August 7th, 2023 government employees and shops all over the city will be closing early or just taking the entire day off, so take note, friends, because nothing kills a vibe quicker than a locked door! Here is everything open and closed on Heritage Day in Calgary.
OPEN
MOVIE THEATRES
Hoping to catch a flick this weekend? Landmark Cinemas, Cineplex and Calgary’s cheap theatre, Canyon Meadows, will all be open this weekend.
THE LANDFILL
Good news, errand-doers, the Landfill will also be open this year on Monday. Check out their hours here.
MALLS
Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, Southcentre Mall, CrossIron Mills, CF Chinook Centre, CF Market Mall and The CORE Shopping Centre will all be open on August 1st.

Where better to celebrate Heritage Day, than Heritage Park? This year, not only will they be open, Calgary’s living history museum will have an entire day of programming, food and sunshine. From musicians to dancers, drummers and more – celebrate our country’s diversity and make some memories along the way!

THE CALGARY ZOO
This upcoming Monday, rally the fam and head over to The Calgary Zoo where guests are encouraged to meet and greet the new baby gorilla, as well as other furry friends from pigs and giraffes to monkeys and lemurs.

CALGARY-OWNED GOLF COURSES
Whether you were hoping to check out Maple Ridge or Lakeview, all Calgary-owned Calgary golf courses will also be open this Heritage Day – Check out the link above to make a tee time closer to next Monday!
GROCERY & LIQUOR STORES
Having a BBQ? Need milk or need to do a last-minute beer run before you head to your campsite? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Monday.

This Heritage Day Calgarians will be able to visit several in-city museums like The Hangar Flight Museum and the Military Museum. Happy learning!
CALGARY TRANSIT
While transit will be operational on Monday, August 7th, C-Trains, buses and On Demand transport will run on their Sunday schedule! For more information on fares, schedules and service changes, please visit their website.
CLOSED
CITY-OWNED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND LEISURE CENTRES
Sorry, folks – but this Heritage Day, all indoor city-owned pools and leisure centres will be closed in lieu of the Stat holiday. Wading pools and spray parks, however, will be open.
IMPOUND LOTS
As per their website, Calgary Parking Authority impound lots will be closed on August 7th this year. In addition, no payment is required for on-street parking, though holiday rates will be in effect at select parkades and select surface lots.
POST OFFICES
Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Heritage Day (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.
COSTCO

GOVERNMENT OFFICES
From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Heritage Day.
