Here’s what’s open and closed on Heritage Day in Calgary this year

This Monday, August 5th, 2024 Albertans can take a load off!

Another long weekend has arrived, but no matter who you spend it with, you’ll need to know where you can and can’t spend a morning or afternoon.

Don’t want to have a run-in with a locked door? Here is what will be open and closed on Heritage Day in Calgary this year.

Open

Malls

Hoping to get a little shopping in? You’re in luck!

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, Southcentre Mall, CrossIron MillsCF Chinook Centre, CF Market Mall and The CORE Shopping Centre will all be open on the 5th.

Movie Theatres

If you’ve got a popcorn craving and would like to catch a flick this long weekend can also check out Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex because both will remain open this long weekend.

Calgary-Owned Golf Courses

From Maple Ridge to Lakeview, all Calgary-owned golf courses will also be open on Heritage Day – Check out the link here to make a tee time now!

The Calgary Zoo

This upcoming Monday, head over to The Calgary Zoo where guests are encouraged to appreciate their adorable residents from pigs and giraffes to monkeys and lemurs.

Grocery and Liquor Stores

Having a BBQ? Whether you need milk or have to do a last-minute beer run before heading to your campsite, you’re in luck. Most liquor and grocery shops will be open on August 5th.

Heritage Park

Celebrating 60 years! This Monday, not only will they be open, but Calgary’s living history museum will have an entire day of programming, food and sunshine. From musicians to dancers, drummers and more – celebrate our country’s diversity and make some memories along the way!

The Calgary Tower

Have family or friends in town? This Heritage Day, check out the Calgary Tower and enjoy the view!

TELUS Spark

Funky facts, giant bugs and fun! This Monday why not head to Telus Spark and have a ton of fun while learning a thing or two?

Museums

This Heritage Day Albertans will be able to visit several museums like the Royal Tyrrell Museum, The Hangar Flight Museum, and the Military Museum. Happy learning!

Studio Bell

Need a break from the hot sun? This Heritage Day check out Studio Bell at the National Music Centre!

City-Owned Recreational Facilities and Leisure Centres

Sorry, folks – but this Heritage Day, the following facilities will be closed in lieu of the holiday. Others will be open with special hours.

  • Glenmore Aquatic Centre
  • Killarney Aquatic & Recreation Centre
  • Renfrew Aquatic & Recreation Centre
  • Shouldice Aquatic Centre
  • Southland Leisure Centre
  • Village Square Leisure Centre

Post Offices

Need to return something to Amazon return or mail out an invitation? It’ll have to wait! This Heritage Day the post office will be closed.

Costco

While grocery and convenience stores will be open this weekend Costco will be unshoppable. Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot dog fix before
Heritage Day! 

Government Office

From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Heritage Day.
