Time to put away your toboggans and get out the bicycles! Ontario’s beloved groundhog, Wiarton Willie, made his Groundhog Day prediction on Friday morning of whether we were in for six more weeks of winter or early spring – and if you’re ready for some warmth then you’re going to be happy!

As crowds gathered at Wiarton Arena Parking Lot on Friday morning, Willie did not see his shadow meaning that an early spring is in store!
The community of Wiarton, located in South Bruce Peninsula, is the meeting spot for this annual event where Willie makes his prediction followed by a weekend of fun at the Wiarton Willie Festival.
The festival kicked off before the prediction around 8:00 AM with fireworks, treats, and warm drinks followed up by a public free skate at Wiarton Arena.
The public is invited back to the Wiarton Arena from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 3rd for more festivities such as a gaming trailer, rock climbing wall, axe throwing, photo booth, human foosball and a trackless train.

Over in Nova Scotia Shubenacadie Sam, the east coast’s groundhog, made the same prediction – early spring.
